Privacy Policy

"How OpinVox collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data for its global debate platform."

OpinVox is a global web platform for structured, real-time debate. Some debate content, votes, profile details, and leaderboard information may be visible to other users depending on the feature you use.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy applies to OpinVox, a web-based software platform operated for a global audience to host, join, moderate, and analyze structured debates.

This Policy explains how we handle personal data when you create an account, browse the website, participate in debates, contact us, join a waitlist or newsletter, or otherwise use the Service.

2. What Data We Collect

We collect the information you provide directly, the technical data generated when you use the Service, and product usage data needed to run the platform safely and effectively.

  • Personal data: name, display name, email address, authentication identifiers, profile image, bio, location, interests, and any information you choose to place in your account or profile.
  • Debate and community data: hosted debates, messages, votes, summaries, moderation outcomes, reports, support requests, and other user-generated content you submit through the platform.
  • Technical data: IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, app configuration, cookie identifiers, local storage identifiers, log data, and security event metadata.
  • Usage data: pages viewed, actions taken, timestamps, feature interactions, session state, engagement metrics, rankings, and analytics events where enabled.

3. How We Use Data

We use personal data to provide the Service, secure the platform, improve performance, communicate with users, and comply with legal obligations.

  • Create and manage user accounts, profiles, and sessions.
  • Operate debates, publish arguments, process votes, sync real-time events, and generate debate summaries or moderation outputs.
  • Maintain product integrity, investigate abuse, enforce platform rules, prevent fraud, and protect network and information security.
  • Analyze service usage, troubleshoot errors, improve features, and measure product performance.
  • Send transactional notices, security alerts, product updates, and, where permitted, marketing or newsletter communications.
  • Comply with legal requests, resolve disputes, and document internal compliance decisions.

4. Legal Bases For Processing

Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we rely on one or more legal bases depending on the context of the processing activity.

  • Consent: for optional analytics, cookie preferences, and marketing communications where consent is legally required.
  • Contract: when processing is necessary to create your account, provide core product functionality, host debates, or respond to pre-contract requests about paid features.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure the Service, prevent abuse, improve product quality, maintain logs, moderate content, and operate the platform in ways users would reasonably expect.
  • Legal obligation: when we must retain or disclose data to comply with applicable law, regulation, court order, tax rules, or law-enforcement requests.

5. How We Share Data

We do not sell personal information for money. We share data only when needed to run the Service, comply with law, protect users, or support a legitimate business transfer.

  • Infrastructure and hosting providers that support authentication, data storage, application delivery, and uptime.
  • Realtime and communications vendors used to deliver live debate events and platform notifications.
  • Analytics, diagnostics, and security vendors where enabled to measure performance and detect abuse.
  • Professional advisers, auditors, regulators, courts, and law-enforcement bodies where disclosure is required or reasonably necessary.
  • A buyer, investor, successor, or affiliate in connection with a merger, financing, restructuring, or sale of all or part of the business, subject to appropriate safeguards.

6. International Data Transfers

OpinVox serves a global audience, which means personal data may be processed in countries other than the one where you are located. Some of our vendors may also store or access data from multiple jurisdictions.

When transfer restrictions apply, we use reasonable measures intended to protect transferred data, such as contractual safeguards, vendor due diligence, access controls, and other supplementary measures appropriate to the transfer context.

7. Your Rights And Choices

Depending on your location, you may have privacy rights under laws such as the GDPR, CCPA, and CPRA. We will not discriminate against you for exercising rights that apply to you.

  • Access and know: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you and information about how we process it.
  • Correction: ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
  • Deletion: ask us to delete your data, subject to legal, security, and operational exceptions.
  • Portability: request a portable copy of data you provided to us where the law gives you that right.
  • Restriction or objection: object to certain processing or ask us to limit processing in specific circumstances.
  • Withdraw consent: change your cookie or marketing preferences at any time without affecting prior lawful processing.
  • California rights: request deletion, correction, and access, and opt out of any regulated sale or sharing if we ever introduce such processing. Where required, we will also honor applicable browser-based signals such as the Global Privacy Control.
  • Complaint rights: if you believe we handled your data unlawfully, you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Retention And Security

We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide the Service, keep records, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and satisfy legal obligations.

Retention periods may vary by data type. For example, account records, moderation history, security logs, and debate content may be kept for different periods depending on product needs, fraud prevention, and legal requirements.

We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal data, including authentication controls, access restrictions, logging, encrypted transport, and vendor security measures. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children And Age Limits

OpinVox is not directed to children. You must be at least 16 years old, or older if required by the laws where you live, to create an account or use paid features unless a parent or guardian has lawfully consented where that is permitted.

If you believe a child has provided personal data to us in violation of this Policy, contact us and we will review the issue and take appropriate action.
